PREREQUISITE: Junior English teacher recommendation and satisfactory completion of English AP Literature. Approval into the program using AP/Honors screening including overall G.P.A. are combined to determine acceptance.

COURSE DESCRIPTION: This course will study in-depth the literature of the world with an emphasis on the British Isles. Students will read and analyze textual and supplementary materials that show the development of contributions of various authors and the significant literary movements, as well as become acquainted with a variety of literary criticisms. Enrichment and extension will continue to be interdisciplinary where possible. Creative projects, oral presentations, in-depth reading and analysis, writing and discussions that are qualitatively different and quantitatively expansive will be provided. Each student will be expected to lead the class in a literary discussion and complete a college-level research paper that explores individual academic interests. In addition, each student will be expected to regularly contribute to class. This course should enable students to pass placement exams and begin collegiate English in non-remedial, freshman level courses. Passage of the Advanced Placement exam at the end of course will allow college credit upon entering a college or university that accepts AP scores. Acceptance and enrollment into this advanced placement course require commitment to and completion of the spring advanced placement exam.
