Chemistry H

This course satisfies the physical science requirement for graduation, using performance expectations from the NGSS physical science standards. It is a laboratory-based course designed to have students build scientific literacy demonstrating proficiency in the matter and its interactions through inquiry-based investigations that also meets one year of the “D” component of the A-G requirements. Students will learn valuable science and engineering skills applicable to topics including scientific methodology, properties of matter, atomic structure, nuclear chemistry, periodic table and trends, bonding and molecules, chemical reactions and equations, conservation of matter, rates and equilibrium, and thermodynamics/energy. Students will make connections between concepts and apply their understanding through inquiries that require them to answer novel and real-world chemistry questions. Students will be evaluated through short formative assessments throughout the unit, summative assessments at the end of units and through projects or presentations, the students create.
