COURSE DESCRIPTION: The Regional Occupational Center (ROC) and Career Technical Education Center (CTEC) are accredited career and technical training institutions designed to prepare students for success in the workforce. These centers provide hands-on, real-world experiences for high school juniors, seniors, and adults interested in developing or refining job skills.

With over 30 capstone courses offered across both ROC and CTEC, students can explore a variety of fields and career pathways. These programs serve as the culmination of Kern High School District’s Career Technical Education (CTE) efforts, offering advanced training that aligns with industry standards.

All ROC and CTEC programs emphasize technical skill development and problem-solving while integrating essential workplace skills such as professionalism, attendance, communication, and safety. Students also gain valuable experience in career exploration, job search techniques, and understanding employer expectations, ensuring they are well-prepared for entry-level employment or further education after graduation.

Students who are accepted into an ROC or CTEC program will attend a 3-hour session either in the morning (AM) or afternoon (PM) at the ROC or CTEC campus. During the remainder of their school day, students will complete three periods on their home high school campus.

To be considered for these programs, students must submit their interest to their school counselors. Program seats are limited, and students will be selected based on program requirements and availability. Those who are selected will be notified of their acceptance into the program. For students seeking to enhance their career readiness and gain a competitive edge in the job market, ROC and CTEC programs provide an excellent opportunity to bridge the gap between high school and the workforce.
