Black History Month

Black History Month
Ridgeview High School

February has been designated as Black History Month. Even though African-American
history is a part of the overall history of America. African Americans have contributed much
to the history of the U.S. Each day this month BSU and BEST will present the series "Today
in Black History" for your information.
Did you know?: One in four cowboys was black. In fact, it's believed that the real "Lone
Ranger" was inspired by an African-American man named Bass Reeves. Born a slave, he
escaped to the West during the Civil War. He lived in Indian Territory, and eventually
became a Deputy U.S. Marshall, was a master of disguise, an expert marksman, had a Native
American companion and rode a silver horse.
