¡Hola y Bienvenidos! My name is Brian Whitfield, and this is my 11th year teaching and my 6th year here at Ridgeview.  I look forward to working with my students every day and am very passionate about helping them achieve their goals.  To tell you a little about myself, I went to Foothill High School and graduated in 2003.  My fondest memory of high school was participating in mock trial and the different activities my senior year.  I continued to study at Bakersfield College and ultimately Cal State Bakersfield and earned my BA in Spanish, Minor in Chicano Studies and Credential from there.  I also returned to CSUB and earned a MA in English.
My hobbies include traveling, relaxing with my family and dog, and watching shows in both English and Spanish.  My favorite movie (or movie series) is the Lord of the Rings Trilogy, as they are a masterpiece that I watch every single year. A quote that inspires me is from Sam from The Lord of the Rings, "It’s like in the great stories, my Frodo. The ones that really mattered… and sometimes you didn’t want to know the end, because how could the end be happy? But, in the end, it’s only a passing thing, this shadow. Even darkness must pass.” This is a beautiful quote that helps us put in perspective the hardships that we all face in life, whether in school or out of it.  It helps us realize that even the characters in the great stories suffered and didn't want to go through their trials but did and came out better because of it.
Please feel free to reach out to me at any time for any questions or suggestions that you have to help your student better.  Thank you.
